Dog Recreation

Dog Recreation

Most dog breeds require exercise and recreation to maintain their health and for entertainment, particularly during the puppy and young adulthood stages. Luckily for millions of dog owners, this recreation is fun for both the animal and its human owner alike.

The most common form of canine recreation is the walk. An owner can walk their dog just about anywhere that is convenient- around the neighborhood, at a nearby park, or down city streets. All the equipment that is needed is a lease, collar, and a little energy. For variety, many breeds also enjoy running or jogging with their owners. If you're well coordinated, you can even ride your bike while your dog trots along beside you. No matter where you walk your dog, it's important to do it every day, as all but the most elderly of dogs require daily recreation.

If you get tired of your walking routine, there are plenty of other ways to exercise and entertain your pet. Most dogs love the water, and swimming is a great means of burning off extra energy. Bringing your dog to the beach or the lake is a great outing for the whole family- just be careful of currents and riptides. Many cities now have dog parks, where owners can unleash their pets in an enclosed space and allow them to run and play with other animals. If your dog plays well with others, this is a great recreational option. If you've got a yard, you can also entertain your dog with a good old-fashioned game of fetch. Throwing dog toys and sticks for your dog to fetch and carry back is fun for them, and a great means of exercise. No matter what means you choose, regular recreation for your dog will result in better health and a happier disposition for your canine!
